Karen Craig, Program Director, BA/RSW
Karen was born in the west end of Toronto. As a youth, she volunteered at a coffee shop, in downtown Toronto and at a specialized camp for children in Ontario Housing. Karen attended McMaster University and obtained her degree in Social Work. Upon graduation, she was employed at the Hamilton Elizabeth Fry Society. She met Alan through a shared interest in supporting those with a addictions & correctional background
Karen and Alan could not have been a better pairing for the vision for youth-at-risk that was growing from seed into reality. In 1985, Alan and Karen married. For the next 15 years, Karen worked at the Alcohol, Drugs and Gambling Services for the Department of Public Health Services, specializing in youth and addiction treatment. During this time she developed programs for the Rock with Alan. After the purchase of the Living Rock’s current building in 1999, Karen joined Alan as Program Director for the Living Rock.
Karen and Alan continue to develop Living Rock’s Ministries while raising their two children. After the purchase of the Living Rock’s current building in 2000, Karen joined Alan as Program Director for the Living Rock.
Karen was Nominated as a Woman of Distinction
Honorary Chair (with Alan Craig) of Week of Child and Youth (2011)
Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee Award in 2012 through nomination by Andrea Horvath, Provincial Leader and MPP Hamilton Centre.
Speaking Preference: All groups that are any size. Karen welcomes opportunities to
speak in educational facilities especially to students in Social Work.
